I´ve got a machine acting as a dedicated router with an ADSL modem installed. It´s running Windows XP Pro and ICS. I was wondering if it was possible to have the internet connection be active as soon as the machine has finished booting. That is to say, I start it up, don´t log in, just start it up and when she get´s to the logon screen she would have the connection active so other users on my network don´t have to activate it manually. I realize that I could also use no password, the machine would skip the logon screen and then dial but I would prefer to have do it as a service. Anyone got any ideas, is this possible through scripting of some sort?

This is just an idea that may help. Firstly, I'm just wondering why a DSL needs to dial up coz normally it's online all the time like cable internet... Also for XP to work someone has to logon to complete OS bootup process right? and install it's default services.

My simple suggestion is this: Create a user (or use an existing one) preferably with administration rights and USE TWEAKUI (XP version) and logon automatically. ADD your Internet Dialer of your ISP in your startup program manually by using MSCONFIG (click > start>run>msconfig), or just drag & drop the shortcut icon to your startup group.

This is just an idea if I'm to do it automatically. Hope this can help.

well this is basically what I said in my earlier post, use no password to logon automatically and so on .... no what I wanted was a similar setup as in Windows 2000 Server were it is enough to boot up the server, not login, and all network services are up and running. You see what I mean?
