stars instead of numbers in a report

This will happen when you don't allow enough room for the number to display. Increase the field size, or if it's in FPW, you can also try decreasing the Font size. Note: If you include any formating information and the number is too large you can get this problem too. e.g. Format 99,999 and the value is 123456.
