I am looking for the part number of the module that will enable the RS232-1 port.

I need it for SMDR logging to a text file.

Thanks.

What system are you talking about here?

Sorry about that. I thought that the Starplus STS was the system. I'm not a telecom guy, even though my boss has decided that I am because I know how to tone out a phone line.

It is model number 3500-00.

Thanks.

On the STS system there is no module needed to activate that port. The port is on the side of the KSU and uses a 9 pin cable to go to PC or Laptop. SMDR Port Assignments

PORT #1-- RS-232C port on the BKSU
PORT #2 -- RS-232C port on the BKSU

SMDR information.

The LCD displays the current baud rate based on which Port number is assigned to the
SMDR Port number.

According to your information, I have everything setup correctly. I have 2 identical systems and the SMDR logging only works on one of them. I get no traffic on the second one.

Is there a way to test the serial port to see if any traffic is going to it?

Have you enabled SMDR through programming on the 2nd system? Once you have it enabled you will only get long distance info unless you program it for local calls as well, according to the manual. Also, just to make sure you have a good cable from the rs232 port to whatever device you are using, take the cable from the 1st cabinet's rs232 port and use it for the 2nd cabinet. I have had problems with these cables before. I believe troubleshooting the problem is the only way to get it to work. You also have a secondary port you can use if the 1st port is bad, although I have never found a bad rs232 port on these KSU's. I have installed hundreds of these systems.

I'm putting my setup on here for archival purposes just in case someone else is looking for the setup.

Both systems are setup identical. Setup as follows:
1. M-F DB9 cable with gender changer (to make null cable) hooked up to a laptop
2. Enter Admin mode on KSU
3. SMDR Mode - Flash 21
a. button 1 - YES
b. button 2 - ALL
c. button 3 - 80
d. button 5 - 1
4. Call Timer Mode - Flash 01
a. button 16 - 00
5. Hyperterminal connection set to 9600, None, 1, Xon/Xoff

I get full traffic and logging on one of the systems. I will try port RS232-2 to see if that one works. I didn't know that one would work also.

Thanks for the help.
