Starplus DHS - Random Clock Errors 1

My Starplus DHS system seems plagued with random clock errors. One or more of the executive key sets will suddenly switch from current date and time to showing no date except for SUN and showing time frozen at or around 12:00. This problem doesn't seem isolated to one phone over another. When I check the system date from the DHS Programming interface, it shows the right date. And other handsets show the right date.

The curious thing is that everything seems to correct itself just as randomly. I've tried shutting the system down and bouncing it. The only thing I haven't tried is to suck down the system config, initialize the entire system, and then upload the config.

Does anyone have any ideas? If not, does anyone have strong recommendations for a new phone system for 15-20 users?

Thanks in advance.

Problems with the DHS again. This one is something that I have yet to see. From working with you in the past I think you have the small cabinet and I think I remember Analag adapters?? For starters, I've seen the DHS system do strange things after a lightning or voltage surge that caused a card to go bad and caused the entire system to act up. Before you get to the defaulting the database point, try taking the system to the lowest workable configuation. In other words, disconnect everything, every card except for the CPU/Processor card and 1 3x8 card and see if you have the problem with the basic configuration. If the problem still exists, try swapping the 3x8 card and see what happens. If you still have the same issues, something in the CPU/Processor card is bad. You can get a refurbished cabinet for under $200.00.

As far as a new system, I am a telecommunications manager for a major corporation with branch office accross the US and the average branch size is 10-12 Lines with 20 Telephones. We have at least one of every kind of Key system on the market and 75% of my time is spent on keeping the key systems working. Keeping in mind that we have very little Avaya (No Merlin Magix at all) I would have to say that we have the least amount of problems and the most success with the Nortel Norstar systems. They seem to be one of the most reliable that we have installed. It is a solid product that will serve your needs well. If you call in a sales type the hype that you will hear is VOIP and how everything is moving toward internet calls. Unless you have an application for that, don't buy it. I know that there are other systems out there that are very good and I like the Vodavi products myself but I've had very good support from the Norstar line. That's my 2 cents! Hope that helps and good luck with the DHS. Let me know if I can help you get that thing working again!
