Hello.
I have a Metaframe 1.8 server running on NT 4.0 TSE, it works fine, no issue there. The printers that are connected on the network with a IP address work fine and when a user connects to MF it does the printer auto creation, no issues there. Here is the issue....

I have 5 printers, all HP's (4000, 4050, 5000 and a 8550 -Not able to put these on the LAN) that are not on the network, they are connected to the client computers locally using a parrale cable. These printers are shared and can be seen on the LAN. The drivers for these printers are installed on the MF server. The client OS is Win 2000 Pro and XP Pro. The local printers work fine outside of MF. On the MF server I have tried the check box under the configuration utility that says basically "Connect only to clients local computer" What am I missing here??

It all works great except there is no printing within MF to a locally connected printer, only printing if using a network printer.

Why? How to fix?

Thanks for any and all info and advice.

You should be able to do Client Local printing - but I seem to remember that with NT4 it's a little convoluted;

Use the HP4 drivers that come with Terminal Services to get it working. You will need to map the NAME of the driver on the client in the wtsuprn.inf file on the server to the HP4 driver e.g. HP LaserJet 4000 = HP LaserJet 4 (but get the names exactly right!). Once you've got the LJ4 drivers working, you can try other drivers to get tray selection, etc.

[We had good luck with the 5Si driver, but could not get the LJ 4000 series drivers working properly at the only site I did this particular installation. There, however, all printers were networked, so it was a bit easier.]

Then you should find that the printer autocreates - but as a client network printer. This needs to be connected on the client as if it were a network printer, to work via MetaFrame sessions(it will appear in Network Neighborhood in Client Network, if it is shared from the client). Note Client network - the first time I did this it took me a while...

You may also find you need to add a net use statement to the user's login script, so that the MetaFrame server picks up the clients' LPT port.

Hope you get it working - it's been a while since I worked with NT4...

Maybe someone else on this forum has a quicker solution.

Hope this helps

Thanks CitixEngineer.

I will give this a try and see what happens.

I am going to get rid of MF 1.8 for TSE and install MF 1.8 for Windows 2000. Not authorized to go to MF XP at this time.

Is there any known issues in regards to this issue I am having in MF 1.8 for Win 2000 Server?

Thanks,

Bill
