staffing tasks by resource qualifications

Is there a way that I can set up a task so that it must be staffed by resource(s) that meet certain criteria? How would I do this? Is an "x" in a corresponding column on the "specify people & equipment..." page a sufficient reference for denotation of a given qualification?

Also, is it possible to get a sum of the total resources being used on a given day?

Q1: You can't ... how would the program resolve the case where there are multiple qualified resources? how would the program resolve the case where there were multiple partially-qualified resources? Besides, as the PM you don't choose the resources -- the resource owner tells you who you will be getting and will often be telling you that the resource is to work on only specific deliverables for a variety of reasons (only partial availability; training/education/"growing" the resource).
