Hi all,
Does stack numbering have an influence on the stack performance? Or it simply mean which next unit in stack may replace base unit in case of failure. I can see following information,
Current Unit Number MAC Address
------------------- ----------------------------
1 00-e0-7b-9b-ff-54
2 00-60-fd-90-17-00
3 00-01-81-f0-89-12
4 00-e0-7b-4e-41-23
7 00-0c-f8-6b-3b-34
5 00-03-42-ee-f7-45
6 00-e0-7b-dd-e0-56

Cascade
Unit Switch Model MDA Model MDA Up Dn
---- ---------------- --------- -------------
1 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G G

2 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G G

3 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G G

4 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G G

5 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 Y G

6 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G Y

7 BayStack 450-24T None 400-ST1 G G
I wonder what "G" and "Y" stands for? And in what cases do i really need to renumber stack units?

no it has no effect on stack performance. On install the stack will number in order they are connected and the unit number is used to identify the configuration for a particular switch. if you were to move one switch in the stack it would keep the same number and configuration.

G (green) indicates cascade operational
Y (yellow) indicates cascade wrapped

These relate to the led on the front of the switch. It looks like you have an issue between switch 5 and 6 as the module has wrapped the link.

Forgot to say. Normally renumber is only needed when replacing a faulty switch.

Yes, i have replaced one unit in the stack once. Do i simply need to renumber units as they are connected physically?

It makes troubleshooting easier if the units are numbered in order. Then when you look at the stack you know switch 4 is the fourth one down.
