Stack fault in module WSPWSP.DLL

For the past couple of days I've been getting errors like the subject above when trying to FTP (any FTP software) or use other products that talk to the 'net in similar ways.

IE and Outlook work OK, but that's about it - any ideas?

wspwsp.dll is a winsock proxy file.... have you installed anything recently that may have affected winsock in some way?

It looks as though I must have, but I uninstalled everything I'd installed recently, along with WS FTP. I then reinstalled the latter with no success (

I've also reinstalled the Proxy client software and TCP/IP for good measure...again, no change.
