SSL Woes

I have just started into the world of SSL, and I appear to be having a few problems. I have got my test certificate from Verisign etc. and installed it onto my webserver, all is well upto now. The only problem is when I try to hit my web site using HTTPS I simply get the page cannot be displayed. I have ensured that the port is open on the firewall, and also that it is set on the website at 443.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Can you hit this SSL page from a machine that is behind your firewall?

No, it just does exactly the same. I could hit the page before I set SSL up no probs at all.
