I am trying to set up windows mobile and have a problem with the SSL. My computer domain is called workgroups.co.uk and the web address is mycompany.co.uk

The SSL is registered as workgroups and hence there is an error as the windows mobile comes in via the web domain and rejects.

Is there ny workround or certificate to overcome this?

Thx

The cert name MUST match the name you are connecting to for a Mobile SSL connection to work. Purchase a cheap cert for (or whatever the exact name (FQDN) that you connect to) and install it on the SBS box, and you will be much closer to being able to use Exchange ActiveSync.

Sorry I have not made myself clear.

My SBS has a domain "workgroups.co.uk" this is its proper name which was used before we used the net.

My domain for email is "mycompany.co.uk" this is just made up. The email is stored on the SBS server, though the website is hosted externally

When I connect it says that the certifacte does not match.

Can you understand what I mean or do you need more info

It is an ip address say 81.179.123.279 to get in via
OWA, would this do?

No. There has to be a name published in the DNS that resolves to that IP address, and that name needs to have a certificate.

Does this company have a domain name that's been publically registered? If so, then there is a DNS zone for it already, and you can probably manage that DNS at the registrar's management console, unless you changed DNS providers after registering the name.

Create a new A-record in the DNS for your registered domain (even if you have to go register a new name first) and map it to your server's public IP address.

Then go to GoDaddy and buy a $30 cert for your full name "owa.domain.com" or whatever you picked. Follow the instructions GoDaddy gives you for generating the certificate request and installing the resulting cert.

Once you've installed that cert from GoDaddy on your server, you will be able to get ActiveSync working, barring acts of God or gremlins.
