Next week my Server admin will register an SSL certificate for our Intranet Web Application located on a Windows 2000 server. I assume that the certificate will cover the all sites on the domain. So when I want to secure a web site it would have the https () and all web sites that I want to secure on the domain (myserver) can use also use a https url address?

you will need a server certificate for each website. For example, if you had 2 sites... and you will need two seperate certificates. The names of these certificates would need to match the FQDN (fully qualified domain name) of each website.

If you have a lot of internal websites (or even a handful), you could setup your own internal Certificate Authority server, for generating and signing your own certificates. That way you can secure all of your websites for a nice price... free!

If you use Windows servers, 2000 and 2003 can both run as certificate authority servers. You install this through Add/Remove Programs... Add/Remove Windows Components. If you google this you'll find plenty of step by steps
