Make sure you only put SSL on the Front-end. Not supported to put SSL on a back-end if your using a Front-End server.
Have you followed the Front-End , Back-End whitepaper? I just went in for training on this and after reading the paper it took about 5 mins to setup. Just make sure you put in the Web address under the host header name on both boxes and only use Basic Auth. Then put SSL only on Front-End. Dan

Can you tell me how you got it working? I'm trying to do the same thing and am running into the exact same problems (where if I use https:// it tells me the page cannot be displayed). Works fine when I uncheck require secure channel.
