Hi Guys,

I am in the project to upgrade SSIS package from 2005 to 2008. The problem is some of the package are 2005 and some others are 2008.

When I checked the version by right click the package and view xml code. It tells me the package version is 3 and nothing shows me whether it is 2005 or 2008.

Also regarding how to upgrade (I searched in google some says using dtutils.exe and other says using VS2008)

Any input about to check the version and how to upgrade would be highly appreciated.

Thanks guys,

Firstly i would take a backup before you upgrade.

To upgrade open the package that is 2005 in VS 2008. It will then ask you if you wish to upgrade. Click yes.

Then obviously see if it still functions. Majority that i have done upgrade and run without issue.

Thanks SQLScholar,

how can I tell whether my SSIS package is 2005 or 2008 as I was told some of them already in 2008.

Is there any reference that I could view about this?

Cheers,

To be honest it probably doesn't matter, If you follow the process above if it's a 2005 package it will upgrade if not it will just open.
You will spend the same amount of time checkign packages to see what they are.

you can try and create one 2005 package, copy it, convert copy to 2008 and compare - you might find out yourself. I don't know and don't have any 2005 to try it
