ssh sentinel + outlook 2000

I am runing a Linksys befw11s4 and ssh sentinel. I'm trying to connect to my exchange server via pop3 and smpt. But I can't even telnet to those ports over the VPN. I can see the exchange server and verify my username, but can't send and receive mail. I know on the exchange side, the server works great, so it has to be something with the VPN. Does anyone have any bright ideas?!?
