You can get ssh from You will need to have openssl installed. You can get openssl from
After you get both of those installed check to make sure you can ssh into your box. Putty is a free ssh client you can get it from Make sure you add a start script for ssh or add it to initd which ever meets your needs. You then need to comment out the line for telnetd in your /etc/inetd.conf file and restart.

As for the spam issue try spam assassin it works with sendmail I believe and is found at
Hope this helps

do you not have ssh on your solaris 9?

the sparc version definately comes with it.

the anti-spam features of sendmail are good, but it's probably worth talking to the sendmail forum about it. forum14

or looking at following the links for the m4 section ... they also have links to 'milter' which is a 'mail filter' ...

is your sendmail talking on the internet ... or do you use fetchmail? the dnsbl thing only works if the blackhole'd machines connect directly to your machines sendmail, you're probably better off with '/etc/mail/access.db' feature turned on anyway if that is the case. the feature also only works if you're connected to a dnsbl that allows you to use it, the default one only works for paying customers.

if you use fetchmail, then you probably want to look at other mail filtering software on top of sendmail ...
