ssh localhost connection closed error

Hi there,
I have sshd running and when I issue ssh localhost, I get:
Connection closed by 127.0.0.1

I am not restricting any IP addresses, and I have no IP tables set. I was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers as to what may be wrong......

Stop the ssh daemon and run it in debug mode
eg. sshd -d -d
Check the output as a connection is made or rejected.

As much as I hate to say it, being as we *nix-ers just love our uptime, but I once dug into the exact same problem and the only solution, sadly, turned out to be a system reboot...

Humm... I will try the debug mode first to see what exactly is causing this problem, and if not, I guess my final resort will be the system reboot.
