We have a client who wants to be able to ssh to his machine from outside the office. His office has a small router hooked up to a dsl line. I presume the dsl modem has an
ip address which changes periodically. Is there any way to connect to the linux box with ssh? Do we have to try to get a fixed ip address for him? Thanks for any help.

You could use a service like dyndns to resolve the changing ip to a domain name.

dyndns is an excellent solution.

I've also rigged up something where a machine behind the router would periodically determine the public-facing IP from the router and email that IP to a yahoo! mail account.

Really old-school, but it accomplished the same thing.

Don't know if I'm stating the obvious, but don't forget to open up port 23 on the router's firewall/port forwarder to the desired LAN machine :_)
