symantec antivirus and system center are both messed up in 1 of servers in our branc offices. (all servers are on win2000, sp1)
i'm located in NYC and we were using 1 of servers here as parent server in symantec center. that server started getting problems so we switched it to another server here. but the transfer was done by IT manager here, not me.
since that time, LA server is having problem. first, it woudln't unlock, so we uninstalled it and re-installed it. then, LA server showed up in the SSC console, but just coudnl't find the individual computers.
i ran SAV ver. 10.0.2 setup and did 'repair'. but doesn't seem to work.
and i noticed in Service (Start>Programs>Accessaries>System Tools>Service), Symantec System Center Discovery Service.

does this mean that i just have to uninstall and re-install the whole thing again...?

thanks for your help!

No.....

Contact symantec....they have a utility called makedrop1.91.exe that you can run from the new server and it will associate the clients to that new server. Had one of my servers crash and lost all the clients...this did the trick.
Or if you want to send me email address I can send you the executeable and the PDF that goes with it.

JOAMON
i would like it if you can email me the utility and PDF. how can i give you my email address? is there a private space in this site?

Thx

Send an email to webmaster@dsutrucks.com and in the subject line put Symantex Fix and I will reply with the necessary items.

Thanks JOAMON for the exe. I'm gonna try it

I wanted to know the solution for the other problem.
1. on this server, Symantec System Discovery Service doesn't appear in Service and can't fix it with 'repair' option on setup.exe on the CD
2. this server does not appear in console with in the network. (the server is primary in its server group)

Any help is appreciated.

Thx

I think I would start over with this server. Uninstall all symantec products and remove all files and folders from the C:drive. Remember to check the symantec shared in the all users common files directory. Re-install and associate the clients with the makedrop I sent you.

I do need to restart the server, eh? I was trying to avoid it as much as I could since it's in LA and they are 3hours behind us here. And there's always someone who are on business trip and connected to the server... Also, my concern was that I need to do this remotely from NY. I've read somewhere (I don't remember...) that Symantec needs to be opened locally for the first time...? Have you heard anything about it?

I'm associating the PC's that were under this server with another primary server within the network using Makdrop...

Thx

You mentioned in one of your other posts....

"no, we don't have a backup of this server's pki folder. i tried copying the pki\root from another server but didnt' solve the problem..."

If this was done on this server I do not know if you will ever get the clients associated back to this server. The file you copied is unique for the server you copied it from. If you have the original I would put it back. If not the best thing may be to start over and remove and re-deploy to the server. If you need a remote desktop program Dameware has a free 14 day trial on their remote desktop product which works very well.
