I am trying to add a pdisk as a hotspare.

smitty ssaraid
Change/Show Use of an SSA Physical Disk
Select an Adapter
Select my pdisk (SSA physical disks that are free section)
Select the current use from "Array Candidate Disk" to "Hot Spare disk"

I get this error
Code:
ssachg: IACL command 0x7 failed. Error code = 0xfffffe10
ssaraid: Change method failed for 0090D6969C8600D
Any ideas?

I did a cerify on the pdisk, it found no errors.

TIA!

Hmm,
unfortunately this does not help. I have downloaded the 'Advanced SSA Guide', and it does not mention anything about this.

Could this be an AIX issue :-(

Have you configured a hot spare pool?
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/7133/pdfs/SC2__UKUserG.pdf
Read chapter 5 before trying to create a hot spare disk.

You can also try and turn it into an AIX hdisk, do some tests on it (create testvg, testlvs) then delete all that stuff and turn the disk back into a raid member candidate.

Just to see if the disk works fine.

HTH,

Okay, my array is cleaned up now. I added another spare disk and everything is 'protected' now. I am a little curious about this disk now. I may take your advice p5wiz, and put this as a system disk, create a VG on it, and see what happens.

thanks everyone!
