I hope someone can help. An AIX server of mine came up with
BC31DEA7 0208130005 P H ssa0 CORRUPT DATA
recently, but it is not a constant error. It appears sometimes in errpt and goes 'undetected' for hours before being reported again. When I look at a detailed report, it does not specify on which disk or FS it is detecting these errors.

I do not have too much knowledge of SSA, as I only started working with it recently......

Much appreciated!!

Maybe the battery on your FWC card needs to be replaced?

try:

ssa_fw_status -a ssa0
or
ssa_fw_status -a ssa1

depends of name of your adapter.

The command should show something like:

# ssa_fw_status -a ssa0
Fast write cache size: 32
Expected battery life: 22000
Powered on hours: 11408
Battery state: Active

Thanks for replying ogniemi?????

I have tried the commands you supplied, only to be told:
ssa_fw_status:Adapter ssa0 does not support this command
ssa_fw_status: Failed to get fastwrite data from ssa0

Anything else I could maybe try?

Thanks

hi ,

run diag
select advanced diagnostics
select problem determination
and select ssa0

does it report any errors ?

also in error report
whats the full message i.e. symptoms

Also check mailx for any errors ?

I ran diags, it came up with:
A PROBLEM WAS DETECTED ON Wed Feb 9 07:41:07 USAST 2005

The Service Request Number(s)/Probable Cause(s)
(causes are listed in descending order of probability):

4252b: Use the Service Guide for your SSA Adapter or SSA Subsystem.
SSA-SUBSYSTEM P2-I1

The detailed error report says that the DASD CACHE is the probable cause. I have a feeling that it could be battery-related, pity that the ssa-commands don't seem to tell me much. Maybe IBM should come and replace the batt's and we'll take it from there..

Thanks for all the help and suggestions so far!!
Chat to you later

It could also be a problem with the memory module that is located on the SSA adapter.Anyway, I'd suggest IBM comes along and just replaces the mem and the battery

The given SRN 4252b is described on page 421 (chapter 18: SSA Problem Determination Procedures):

"Description: The Fast-Write Cache Option Card battery has reached the
end of its life. The fast-write cache is disabled.
Action: Exchange the FRU for a new FRU."

Possible FRUs:
Fast-Write Cache Option
Card battery (100%)
(“Removing the Fast-Write
Cache Option Card of an
Advanced SerialRAID
Adapter” on page 332).

And here is the docu:

Sweet, thanks for the link, it is exactly what I have been looking for as far as SSA is concerned. I have also spoken to IBM and they said that the would come and replace the batt's.

Thanks to everyone who helped, I'm sure we'll chat again some time!!!!
