Can somebody help me with this error,

I have an RS6000/F50 with 12 disks, with an SSA array controller.
The array is in a good state, accourding to SMIT.
If i look in the errorlog, errpt -a, the errorlog if full of SSA_ARRAY_ERROR faults. This error returns every hour.
more information about the error:

SSA_ARRAY_ERROR
description: resource unavalble
pausable cause: dasd device

DASD - ssa disk software but i am not sure

First - backup if you havent done it recently :)

You may try:
- check device statuses in smit devices ... SSA - whatever
- if you get lucky - all disks are there in array (and not failed or missing) and array itrelf is "good"

run errclear 0 wait for hour or 2 and if errors are gone "certify" disks in diag (one by one ur all-at once) and look at errpt after,,
check with IBM or its web if there is newer SSA firmware available

if not:
- do what error says - refer to "Service Guide" which came with your machine or one from IBM's website i can lookup one for you if you give exact details of fault
- or run diag for every component in your raid array

You can download necessary documents from IBM eg search for "F50 Service Guide" or "IBM SSA Enchanced RAID PCI User Guide" or so.

Sounds like a disk has died. You can go into diag and run some SSA diag utilities. Just type "diag" from command line and look through the menu, probably somewhere near the bottom. We don't use SSA anymore so I don't have the menu to look at, but you should see something like "SSA Service Aids". Go in there and look for "Link Verification". Run that and if you have a bad disk it will tell you where. To find it physically in the drawer (if it does not display the serial number) you can turn on der blinkenlight on each disk on either side using the "Disk Identification" (??) option. If you see a line of "******" instead of a disk, I think that is an adapter in the loop.

It's been a while, I may be misremembering. Hope that helps.
