Hey Everyone-

I get all the way through on the 4/2001 installation, but when I reboot, the machine tells me that it can't find the right startup files.

Specifically, the screen dump is the following:

Boot device:/iommu/sbus/espdma@f,400000/esp@f,800000/sd@2,0 File and args:
bootblk: can't find the boot program
Program terminated
type help for more information
ok

Any input?

Hi,
At the OK prompt, give the command 'boot disk0'.If it still gives some error, then give the command 'devalias'.This shows all the physical device names. Then give the command 'boot <phy device corr. to disk0'.If u still face any problem then reply back.

NB-

Disk is @ SCSI ID 2, so I have it pointing to the right device. (boot-device = disk2). It seems like another issue.

Hi,
If u r sure that this is the device then u can do one thing :
Boot the system in single user mode using cdrom 'boot cdrom -s'.Then give this command 'installboot /usr/<platform-name>/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/<name of device where root is installed>'.
Just check if this helps...

Hi,
Just asking out of curiosity whether root is on first partition or not....(partition 0)....

Hi,
I hope this disk is on internal controller and not on some disk-pack connected to the server.

Actually, the disk is external to the SS20. Would that represent an issue? I have other boxes setup in the same fashion with no problems.

Well I have seen a few times that if the disk is external to the server then there is problem of booting the server.

Hey if u have the SCSI ID 0 or 1 vacant then move this disk to that and try booting the system. If it boots well then it will solve u'r problem.otherwise we will look around for a solution....

Moved the external disk to both IDs (0, then 1), with no resolution. Any info you can dig up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
