Is there anyway besides using CDR that you can see the trunk utilization?
 
BCM Monitor can give you an idea of which lines went active at what time. I think it can do a "snapshot" or some type of capture to a file as well. At a minimum, you can see how many PSTN/IP trunk lines you've had active at one time.
