recently a "professional" changed our squid.config and also deleted both cache and log files. it initially gave as an error "starting squid:/etc/init.d/squid:line 162 2420 aborted" but it could browse. now it is still giving us the same error but not browsing. how can i rectify it.

What does line 162 of squid.conf say?
Anything in syslog or squid log?
I found this on an other forum:

Set the parameter 'visible_hostname' in /etc/squid/squid.conf to the
name of your computer.
.......
also check that you have the same hostname in /etc/hosts
