I am working on a ipo 406 4.2.11. i have replaced the digital 30,analog 8 and phone 8 modules. They are getting alot of noise squeeling on a few digital phones. I have swapped ports and it goes away but comes back. The only other module to replace is the 406.
They are using copper lines. The system is earth grounded.I have plugged the 5410 sets right into the bad port to rule out cabling.
Any help would be great.

it can happen even if the modules were upgraded.

try dialing *00 on the affected phone.

if not. reboot the system

Yes, Avaya like to think they have fixed it on the latest releases but they haven't. It has been taken off the caveats site though. So I think they are hiding from it and hope we all stop complaining about it :)

fat chance for that one I open a ticket when it comes back to my customers for sure, but I think they can't pinpoint it in the traces to anything and they might need to rewrite the phone firmware.
I am not sure about you guys but I only had this happening on 5410's so far

If you can't be good, be good at it!

Not sure they will ever fix it, I think it's a hardware issue and there is little to no chance of them redesigning and replacing the modules. It does not show up in the software because it's the hardware, they place too much focus on traces and very little on what you tell them I find.

HSM i thought that too. but it can come back. escorthosis pointed out that a reboot does the same thing. and the unit has to reboot to upgrade.

Thanks to all. I am having a new 406 shipped out. I am going to try that. It is the last piece of hardware that needs replaced.

the next time it happens. which it probably will. try dialing *00.

should clear it.

I fear it will return, @Westi we have one site but only ever this one where it happens to the reception 5420 every month or so. All our other sites where it happens are 5410's though :)

Do you think downgrading to 3.2.99 and back will help ?

It can't hurt, but we don't/can't know if it's the downgrade/upgrade or the reboot during the downgrade/upgrade that fixes it. Even then it can come back.

I have found this issue on one site in particular, squeeling, but if you reboot it, DTMF tones done work - e.g dial phone banking, and hit 1 for Abc dept or 2 for xyz etc, the IVR doesnt hear it. the only case is to reflash the bin files.

weird. i had been treating the squeel and no dtmf as different issues
