I am fairly new to "Report Studio" in Cognos. Can anyone tell me what this error message means? I am having a very hard time finding error messages from both Cognos and IBM websites as they relate to "Report Studio" and match the error messages given on our Cognos system.

Thank you. :)

Check the details on the error message in the same page. AFAIK all SQL error messages are detailed and will point to the real problem.
If you cannot verify the details then check out the log files on the server..

Thank you Blom034 for your quick response.
Unfortunately, the "details" displayed on the page are rarely of any benefit.

Presently, this report is a "list report" w/i Report Studio. To get familiar with the data, I have only
performed a mere "drop" and "drag" of fields from the various tables onto the report page; w/no filters. I have eliminated the field causing the error but simply do not know what the error means.

The error that I am receiving now is

"DPR-ERR-2082 An error has occurred. Please contact your administrator. The complete error has been logged by CAF with SecureErrorID:2010-09-14-15:36:36.704-#116. I do not have acess to the server."

I have looked at the Cognos and IBM websites and nothing seems relevant. Do you have any good COGNOS sources for error messages?

The general idea of these SQL errors is that Cognos cannot compile a valid SQL statement to be executed. This will normally mean that the Cognos model does not 100% fit the database or that improper definitions exist in the model.
It could also mean that you are combining incompatible objects (usually resulting in a cross join error)

So, in your case this would be a matter of communicating the problem with whoever designed the Cognos model you are working against..

Thanks blom0344,

I will definitely check out all of your suggestions.

Another question, do you have a good SQL book that you could recommend?

Code:
[URL unfurl="true"]http://www.free-ebooks-download.org/free-ebook/dotnet/SQL/sql-bible.php[/URL]

I own a hardcopy. More than 800 pages covering all major topics and discussing differences between the 3 main vendors (DB2, Oracle, SQL server)
Very , very good :)
