Could you post your listener.ora file here? I suspect you are using other protocols that you don't need. Robbie

I'm a client and not the server. I don't have access to the server.

I had "bequeath" protocol in my tnsnames file in 8.0, but when I installed 8i, there's no bequeath so I couldn't configure it.

But here's my tnsnames.ora file.

# TNSNAMES.ORA Network Configuration File: C:\Oracle\Ora81\NETWORK\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora

But do you need bequeath protocol?
Robbie

Bequeath protocol may be used only from the server, it eliminates the need in listener. For remote comunications you should use TCP instead.

Thanks guys, so why am I getting this error message?

Check the 'location' of your data in CrystaReports Designer (under the database..Set Location menu item) ..It may be using an ODBC source that is incorrectly configured....

If you have an Oracle client installed( as you do), I would advise not using ODBC at all, but the 'native' Oracle connection available under More Data Sources..Oracle Server
in the Log On to server section...

Also, to be sure that the correct tnsnames.ora file is bieng used( the 8.1 one) set an environment variable ( a system one) called TNS_ADMIN and set it to c:\Oracle\Ora81\NETWORK\ADMIN
