I have the unfortunate task of putting SQL Srver 2000 onto about 18 laptops. Yesterday, after installing it (which was fairly easy) - the user got a message from their network/vpn saying that the need SP3 and automatically shutting down the database. We downloaded and installed SP3 onto two of the laptops and then, when we rebooted - you could see the "hourglass" mouse pointer which never went away - you could see that sqlmgr.exe was an active process but it did not finish.
The application that will be running on the laptops will be a local web page (not networked) - how important is SP3(should I be worried about SQL Slammer)?
Is there something I should be doing to correct the hanging?
