Anyone seen this ... or better yet ... have a solution?

I have read that replacing the sqlsort.dll in the mssql7\bin dir may correct it. Have not yet been able to run DBCC CheckDB nor CheckTable. Will be able to accomplish that task during tomorrow mornings downtime.

Thanks

Thanks James ... say that article too. This article,
is the one I am focusing on right now. I can replicate the stack dump by issuing the convert statment against the NW DB as stated.

When the server in California hits its scheduled downtime, in about an hour, we are going to reinstall SP3. This is an SS7 server by the way.

What concerns me is that currently, the sqlsort.dll that should reside in the mssql7\bin dir is not present.

Will update the forum once we complete our reinstall.

Thanks

Certainly looks like that's your problem. FYI, I can also recreate it on both my SQL 7 servers (both SP4).

That article just confirms that it's a problem with SQL 7 - it doesn't actually give you any info on how to fix it. I assume that means that there is no fix (you'll probably find reinstalling SP 3 won't help).

I would try and find out what code is issuing the malformed query and fix it. Simple Profiler trace should do that easily.

Here is the kicker ... We have identified the rouge SP and it DOES NOT have any Convert or Cast functions being used. The only "high end" functions are a couple of Sums and a Grouped By which are no big deal.

I plan to break the SP down in parts and see if I can identify which subsection of code is the culprit and then maybe I can locate the trouble spot.

Will advise and thanks for the info ...

Thanks

Do let us know what the outcome is - I'd be interested to see if it's a SQL Server bug or just a problem specific to your installation.
