Hi

We run an SQL Server 2k Standard Edition Local database holding our clients confidential details. We wish to make some of the client data available on a website for them to view and update. We have chosen to store the web data on a remote webhost also running an SQL Server 2k.

I am trying to acertain the best method of keeping these databases in sync.

The website runs SSL so that the clients can login. Is it possible for our local SQL2k to login using SSL to replicate or is there another secure method?

If replication is the chosen method; we are not sure if we wish to use Trasactional or Merge replication. Are there any security issues associated with Trasactional Replication over the internet?

Thank you in advance for any help.

The easiest way would be to create a VPN tunnel between networks. This will encrypt the data in transport, while not placing any additional load on the servers of trying to encrypt and decrypt the data.

There is a way to have a SQL Server encryt the data as it comes out of the server, however I have never tried it.
