Hello
Running an SQL Database Maintenance Plan to backup "user databases". The Complete Backup tab has it to running daily at 10:30PM, and it removes older files after 2 weeks.

The Transaction Log Backup has a time of Monday - Friday at 12AM. Is this Ok? The remove older files option is not enabled. Should this be set in the Transaction Log Backup tab?

Thanks, still newbie to SQL2k.

Gabriel

Glad to be here!

First thing. It won't remove your files unless you are creating a new file everytime you do a backup. If you are only appending each backup to the same file nothing will be removed. Why not? Because when it looks to remove files, it's not looking at the SQL Server backup date. It looks at the date/time of the file itself. And that date/time is updated every time a change is made to the file. So each backup will change the file date to the current date.

So setting that option may or may not be worth it depending on how you are handling your backup files.
