Attempting to install SQL Server 2005 on a physical server in our DMZ via network share and upon running the installation, I encounter the following:

"2007-09-12 16:37:33.34 Server The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x54b. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors."

The installation is being run under a LOCAL user account with local admin rights. Also, this server is a member of a local workgroup and not the domain...which I believe to be the problem in that it wouldn't be able to communicate with any domain controller.

Thanks in advance.

You get that error when you can't authenticate against domain. is port 1433 open from within the dmz to your network?

Hi Paul, yes the firewall was the issue...port 1433 was not open in the DMZ to our internal network. Thanks.
