Hi, I using SQL 2000 standard server but now when I've come to the stage when I need it off the box - but it won't uninstall. The error is 'Unable to locate the installation log file C:\program files\microsoft sql server\mssql\Uninst.isu Uninstall will not continue.'
I have tried uninstalling from the control panel and from the CD but get the same error. I've also tried reinstalling, then I attempt to unistall but again the error pops up.
How can I get this off my system?
Any help is great.

Regards,

Try to find the Uninst.isu file.
Copy the path.
Goto Regedit, find the key of SQL Server and edit the path to uninst.isu manually.

Hope this does it.

Thanks, but there are 4 *.isu's in their relevant paths, i.e. Adobe, Javasoft and Liveupdate use their own uninst.isu but one does not exist for SQL.
any more please?

Does the Install CD give you the option to REPAIR? If so, I would run the Install CD and try the REPAIR option to see if it installs the missing file(s), then run the CD again and choose the uninstall/remove option.

There's no 'repair' option, but i did try the 'rebuild registry' option.
What I'm really looking for is a way to manually removed SQL from the box as this is also a Norton AV server and I cant afford to kill the server os.
many thanks

Blogg -

I see your thread is from 2004, I do hope you got your SQL Server uninstalled.

I am running into the same problem, my uninstall file is missing, add/remove programs gives me the error "unable to locate uninstall file" and I don't have a disk. How did you finally get it uninstalled?

Thanks

If I remember correctly I just deleted ALL uninstall files named *.isu from the system - this allowed me to remove sql.
