Hello,

I am running MSDE for SQL2000 on a windows2000 server. I am trying to connect to this server from a client using the Enterprise Manager or through ODBC. When I try to register the server in the client/remote EM using the server name, I get an error message "specified sql server not found. connectionopen (Connect())"

If I try to connect using the IP address I receive this error, "Invalid Connection. ConnectionOpen(Invalid Instance())"

I can register the server locally in EM.
When I try to register on the remote system, it displays the server name as an available server, so the cleint can see the server as an SQL server.

I did find a tek-tip to change a registry entry for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\[Instance
Name]\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\TcpPort
to 0

This did not work.

I am using TCP/IP and Named Pipes as enabled protocols.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Skee

Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?

Ensure that TCP/IP is a loaded protocol on the server side, then check the client (Client Network Utility) to ensure it is also using TCP/IP (only). Use the IP address for the server name.

If that still doesn't get you anywhere, ensure that you can PING the IP address from the client computer. --------------
