SQL2000 Analysis Services cannot count

I'm brand new to MS SQL 2000 Analysis Services. I have it installed, service pack 3, on my server with MS SQL2000 database.

I fire it up and define a data-source. It claims to be connected. I go to New Cube --> Editor and try to create a very simple cube. When I specify the table to use as the fact table, it says it cannot count the number of records. When I setup a dimension it says it cannot count the number of elements in the dimension.

Not being able to do these steps, I cannot "process" the cube and thus cannot save it.

Any ideas on what is wrong? Seems like I had this operational last year when I messed with it. Am I missing something or perhaps the software is trashed and needs to be reloaded.

Again, running MSSQL2000 SP-3 with Analysis Services at SP-3 on a Win2000 Server.

Thanks.

To expand on this, MS Knowledge base article Q297889 talks about this error and a registry entry to make. It seems to say that the error will pop-up after an extended period of time and that it was also corrected with SP1.

I get the error almost instantly so I don't think it is a timeout problem and I am running SP3.

FYI, this may be a boggus problem. I looked about and discovered a comment that the problem arises when the fact table is empty and that is indeed the case here. If I try a sample cube against a table that is not empty, all is fine.

This issue also arises if you do not check save password in the connection properties editor.

It is very simple. The only reason for that is that there might be no records in the fact table. Please make sure that atleast one record in present in the Fact table.

Even after this if you are getting, please let me know.
