Does anyone have any experience with converting an SQL Database to the MSDE .mdf format? I have an SQL database and I need to export it (tables, views, stored procedures, etc) to the MSDE format, and I can't seem to find too much information on performing this task. Any information would be greatly appreciated including links or even books that may be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Peter

I have no experience in this area, but from what I was told it's very simple. I was told that the MSDE files are the same structure as SQL Server files, and that you could simply put the file in the correct directory and "attach" it to the DBMS.

I'd try one of the two following things: Either backup the existing database to a file, and then create a blank/empty database in MSDE and restore that database from that file, OR use DTS to script out and recreate all database objects and data into the MSDE (after creating a connection to the MSDE service).

good luck to you.

Either of you know of a good place to download MSDE? Is it possible even? Finding things at MSDN is tough sometimes.

Also, how does it go with VisualStudio.net?

Thanks for the information. After installing MSDE, I was able to use the Import/Export Tool to import the data from the existing SQL database.

As for .Net, I haven't really used it at all myself.
