We have thousands of users, dozens of applications and databases. We also use SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition on all of our servers.

Have you read the articles at the following links?

Thanks Terry I will read those links. I'm having to deal with old computers with little ram etc and an app that is somewhat processor intensive so I will problably need to have the client make some concessions in the large amount of data and info he is trying to store. I'm thinking the REAL problem is the clients outdated computers. Also his Win2k Server is not exactly the best for handling SQL Server in this type of environment.

Thanks again.

As a second thought, do you think the servers RAID config might be slowing things to a craw?

The Win2K Server shouldn't be a problem. There are lots of performance variables with SQL Server. The most important varaibles are database and application design. Appropriate indexes are an important part of database design. Application design requires special attention to optimizing queries. Of course, hardware can affect performance.

I recommend that you read about SQL Server performance. I've gathered a number of links and created a page on my web site. You may find some of the articles list helpful.
