Hi

Please can someone help.

I tried to apply SP3a to SQL Server 2000 SP2

It crashed - I tried all the suggestions from the net but none of them worked.

I removed SQL and tried to reinstall it.

It is now not reinstalling - Event ID 17055.
I have tried various things and still no joy.

I feel my next option is to reinstall the entire OS - which is SBS 2000.

Please come up with a better solution

Paul

What error message does it give when you try to reinstall?

Here are some things to try if you havent. Delete the sql server folder it left behind. Look for it where it installed it at. clean the registry of sqlserver. its possible it was not all deleted.

Thanks for the reply Corran007

Error message: Event ID: 17055 fruncn process 3236
exception access violation

Not exact message but you get the idea.

I actually have an engineer doing as you suggested at the moment - cleaning out the registry.

I will keep you posted - any other ideas please let me know

Hi Again

We have reinstalled SQL Server now.

But we have the same problem as before we installed it.

The service is running but when we start the Service Manager it starts and then stops a few seconds later.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Paul

Does it give any sort of error? check the system logs. Also does the sql server stop when the service manager stops, or just the service manager?

are you able to access the database server?

We can access it using single user mode.

We have just tried it on another test server and exactly the same thing has happened.

Just the service manager stops.
