OK SQL Server 2016 Standard. Remote connections are enabled with a time of 600 seconds. We have several reporting tools that read the SQL database - Access, Excel and Crystal Reports primarily. In every case, we care getting a SQL timeout message, much quicker than 10 minutes, when we try to connect to the server.
This is only happening the first time we try to connect. The next time we try it connects immediately and works fine as long as that application - Excel, Access or Crystal Reports - has been kept open. If the application is ever closed we have to repeat the steps above to connect again.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
