We have been experimenting with SQL Server Reporting Services instead of using Crystal Report Writer because we recently converted from Progression Btrieve to Progression SQL and purchased the Macola restricted use license for MS SQL Server. We are running MS Server 2008 R2.

According to the "about" we have MS SQL Server Standard 10.0.4064.0

We had requested the latest version of SQL be loaded, but instead of loading MS SQL Server 2008 R2, we got MS SQL Server 2008 without ANY reporting options. So we are using the free MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express version to write reports.

When we asked about it, we were told because we selected the Macola version, we could not upgrade to 2008 R2 and get the reporting options unless we purchased the full blown version and that we could go to the Microsoft site and download teh Reporting Enhancement Pack....but we couldn't find an enhancement pack to download.

So the question is does anyone else have the restricted license and have been able to upgrade to MS SQL 2008 R2 without purchasing the full license?

Thanks!!!

You should probably post this in the SQL server reporting services forum. This really isn't a Macola question. As far as I know SSRS is available as a download free of charge, but if you purchase from Microsoft it should be included on the CD. SQL 2008 vs 2008r2 is a non-issue.

I will try to find the download URL but it'll be late today before I can do it.

If I am wrong somebody please correct me.

That said, Crystal will work just fine with Progression, and NONE - as in zero - of the Progression reports have been switched over to SSRS reports yet, as of 7.7.500.

The reporting services are on the CD from Exact, perhaps when the SQL server was installed they choose not to install Reporting Services. To upgrade from SQL2008 to SQL2008R2 would depend on if you purchased Maintenance from Exact on the SQL2008, if so then you should be able to upgrade with Exact. Exact OEM edition of SQL includes the reporting services, it is just an option on the CD when installing. I would install the service from the SQL2008 Standard CD and not Express as the Express Reporting Services are different than Standard SSRS. If I remember correctly in express you can't schedule reports to run, only on-demand and there are others as well such as : Remote data sources are not supported. Reports that are hosted in a SQL Server Express report server must retrieve SQL Server relational data from a local SQL Server Express Database Engine instance.

I would agree with NEmacGuy - SQL reporting was simply not installed. Pop in the CD and install it.
FYI...Exact is now supporting SQL 2008 R2 in the latest releases of Progression and ES. The R2 release of SSRS has some nice additional features.

Thanks. We did purchase from Exact and have maintenance. The CD we have is what the business partner brought in, I guess they didn't copy everything....not actually from Exact. Should I just request from business partner that Exact send me the update for SQL and then everything would be there or is there a place to request on the Exact customer portal?

Where are you seeing this:
"According to the "about" we have MS SQL Server Standard 10.0.4064.0 "
Sounds like you have SQL 2008 (non R2 release). R2 started at 10.50.1600.1 See
You can run this SQL query to check its version:
SELECT @@VERSION

Wherever you purchased SQL from, they should have left you a CD. SSRS should then be on that CD and you can install it.
