Hi,

I have installed SQL Server 2000 on my local PC (Windows XP).

I can connect to a remote sql server but when i try to register my local PC where the soft is installed, it fails. For this to work I had installed the program twice but I think it should be possible to have only one instance of SQL Server and have local databases ?

When I try to register my local pc, it's name appears in available servers in the first window of the wizard, but the registration fails saying SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied.

how come it works with two instances of SQL Server ?

thanks for your help

Are you saying that you have a default and a named instances of SQL Server installed, you are able to add other servers to your PC but other PCs are not able to add yours to their server list? Which one of the two are you trying to register?

problem solved :

the service wasn't started for the local server !
