I have a customer getting a new dual processor server. The term "processor" license for SQL Server 2005 seems to indicate that they would need to purchase 2 of these, since the server has 2 processors.

Is this correct? If not can anyone point me to some documentation I can use to show a certain vendor that this is not required?

Or maybe someone has already tackled this and has first hand knowledge that 2 processor licenses are, or are not, required.

I beleive a dual processor server, would require 2 processor licenses, where a dual core would not (assuming you are buying a per processor license).

NEmacGuy,

You are 110% correct. I have never dealt with this issue before but I sure got an edumcation in the last 48 hours!

Dgillz,
We too normally don't buy per processor licensing, with the exception of high user count, or if synergy portal is in the picture. Then I beleive we lean towards SQL with per processor licensing, and internet connector licensing for the OS, along with whatever client cals.
