This is something I've never really got my head round.
I know about per seat and per processor and per server, but
I have many SQL servers, different versions and different usages.
My understanding is that, all three are effective with SQL 2000.
Per processor is most expensive, but is simplest, as you are covered, whatever the usage of the server.
Per Server still requires you to buy CALs, so you have to know how many users connect to each server.
Per seat, also requires you to know how many users connect to each server.
SO First, I need to find out what my licensing requirements are? ie. how many users are connecting to each server. Is there a tool for this?
Next, I need to ascertain, what licensing mode is most cost effective, for my environment?
The Microsoft licensing white papers are too generic and leave me with lots of questions.
Can anyone help?
