I'm thinking about building a three node failover cluster, just for gits and shins... er, I mean, learning purposes. ;-)

I have three licenses for Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, and three identical machines, and some extra time on my hands. We think this may be a supercool (er, useful) feature to have, but it's gonna fall on me to build it.

Is it worth it? Is it stable? Has anyone gone boldly already?

Let me know, please. I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Clustering? Yeah it's a tried and true tech. Been using it for years since SQL 2000.

My current production databases are clustered with SQL 2008 on Windows 2008. Check out September's SQL Server Magazine. Cover article is on setting up a cluster.

You have the SAN that is required right?
