SQL Server Error Message 999

Trying to resolve sql server 7.0 error message 999 when trying to start database.

What is the exact error message you are getting? I've been on Microsoft's web site and a few others and can't find anything (so far) about ERROR 999.

SQL Server Error 999 "A SQL Server request resulted in a bad return code or status but no error message was returned."

Okay, we're getting closer. What it's saying is that something happened, but there's no error code to tell you what happened, so here's a default error code. What steps were you following when you tried to start the database?
