Hi all,

I have recently decided to run the following backup procedure.

I wanted to retain the Transaction Log for 7 days and then delete the file and start over again.

My reasons for this are because the logs were appending each other and were getting very big in size (7Gb!)

At present I archive the logs to another location and then let the job re-create again approx every 2-3 months.

This is what I wanted to run but the job fails for some reason :-(

BACKUP LOG [WLVDF10] TO [WLVDF10 Trans] WITH INIT , NOUNLOAD , RETAINDAYS=7, NAME = N'WLVDF10 Transaction', NOSKIP , STATS = 10, NOFORMAT

Any help on the above would be much appreciated.

Leigh

What errors are you seeing in the Job History and the SQL Server Agent log?

This
WITH INIT
causes the backup to 'initialize' (overwrite) that file. So, unless you are creating a new file with every backup job, you are overwriting the previous backup.
