Hi,

Maybe this is a silly question but I need to know what edition of SQL server do I need to set up my PC as a stand-alone sql server?

the OS on my PC is XP pro.

You need to use SQL Server Developer edition. Enterprise and Stanadard would let you intsall only on servers

And you can not use Developer edition for a production database.
