Code:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied

We've seen this occur very periodically and have not been able to determine what the cause actually is. For instance, today 6 of these got sent to us at 3:01PM...and we haven't gotten one for months...

our landing page that throws this calls a SQL Server that is in a cluster...our clusters are SQL01A and SQL01B, our form calls SQL01

anyone seen anything to combat this or determine what's causing it? we checked the logs on the SQL box and didn't see anything at that time.

Maybe it's just network problems or conjestion. If you try to make a connection with SQL Server and it doesn't receive a response in a certain time limit it will produce that error.

ca8msm is probably right. It may be a timeout issue on the server. You can check it in EM and chage the timeout to 0.

thanks for the responses...you're probably right...there is a lot going on with that DB server, so small spurts of these errors may be what we're going to see...

wouldn't that give a Timeout error instead of a does not exist error, though?

Not if the network is conjested as it simply won't be able to see the server.

We had this very error and the problem was as ca8msm described. We were having network issues and the server just couldn't be contacted at certain times.

I've also had a similar problem, but I got rid of it by using the IP address of the server instead of the server name in the connection string...
