I am Oracle DBA for 5 years. The company now wants me to get MCDBA, which freaks me out. Can anyone tells me what is SQL server DBA like and career outlook as compared to Oracle DBA?
I'm switching from ORACLE to MS SQL Server. I was on my way to being certified as an ORACLE Programmer when my company switched their database from ORACLE to SQL Server (thanks to me - I proved the original vendor was not living up to their contract).
In my opinion - SQL Server is WAY easier to learn and work with. I took the Administering an SQL Server 2000 database class and am the only DBA. I'm not having any problems writing jobs, scripts, administering the database, etc. I take the programming class next week. Oracle's SQL and MS SQL Server's T-SQL are basically the same.
I think you'll like the 'simplicity' of SQL Server over Oracle.
