SQL Server Connection Best practice

Hey Guys,

I am a VB6.0 programmer migrating to vb.net, there appears to be 101 ways to connect to a DB for selecting, inserting e.t.c data from a database. Does anyone know what method is the "best practice"?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Are you asking how to connect or about various data objects(dataset,adapters,datatables, etc.)?
